  • About

It’s back! At the centre of the city of Adelaide sits the Festival’s beating heart: The Palais. With stunning vistas of the river, city and parklands, evening summer breezes and sunset drinks on the outdoor deck, and a series of must-see live events, the Palais is home to the Festival’s artists, audiences and out-of towners for 18 glorious days and nights.

As in 2017, events start early each day until late at night with a diverse program of news and talks, food, artist forums, late night DJs to dance the night away and an extraordinary live music program for every taste and preference. But don’t just take our word for it - in the words of Colin James in his Advertiser rave:

“...boy, does it come alive when the sun starts to slide down over the mouth of the Torrens and the Adelaide sky turns a deep azure as the first evening stars begin to blink... it is when the live music starts to play that the Palais... really comes into its own. In short, it is a fantastic place to listen to a live band. The sound quality is great, there’s plenty of fresh air as gentle breezes swirl through the smoke machines and the various light shows that love the darkness beyond the canvas...”

The Palais’ music line up for 2018 is a brilliant check list of Australian and international acts. Queer icon Perfume Genius will bring his fearless and celebrated live show to Adelaide, hot on the heels of sell-out performances in London. Also featured is Brooklyn art-rock indie innovators Grizzly Bear, the soulful indie-pop sensation Lauv and UK electro-pioneers Mount Kimbie. The soul and funk of legend Lee Fields and The Expressions will have festival-goers grooving on The Palais dance floor well into the night with their catalogue of hits.

In addition to the great line up of international artists is an outstanding cohort of Australian acts including rock legends Regurgitator, firebrand trumpet-playing vocalist from The Cat Empire Harry James Angus and dance veterans Art vs Science, who will have The Palais swinging into the wee hours. For those who prefer something more laid back, The Palais is also home to a string of spellbinding Australian songwriters including Vikki Thorn (of The Waifs), dreamy folk star Julia Jacklin and the angelic Lior. Rounding out the locals is Archie Roach AM, a three time ARIA Award winner and one of Australia’s most treasured performers who will be playing a set spanning his three decade long career, including tracks from his forthcoming album.
